Part 1
Understanding developmental & relational trauma.
In the first four sessions attendees will learn about:
- what is meant by the terms relational and developmental trauma
- framework for relationship-based, and trauma informed practice, and therapeutic re-parenting.
- trauma, adversity, and loss experiences which many children and adults have faced and still face.
- wider lens of trauma.
- how trauma can interrupt someone’s developmental trajectory.
- the multi-layered impact trauma has on children’s brains, bodies, relationships, behaviours, and emotions, such as emotional regulation, sensory processing, and impulse control.
- reflect on how in the context of trauma we might adapt, cope, navigate and survive.
- trauma can be a whole body multi-sensory experience.
- how trauma can impact on one’s speech and language.
- concepts such as shame, co-regulation, and dissociation.
- FASD and the in-utero period.
- power around language and words.
- consider some of the literature around hope, and survivorship.
