Fostering Support
We know the huge difference you will make as a foster carer and offer a comprehensive support package to help you become the best foster carer you can be – this helps us to make sure fostering is successful for the children you will care for. As our fostering experts like to say, you won’t go it alone when you foster children with us.
Financial Package
You will be paid a generous financial allowance, ranging from £154 – £539 per week. The allowance you receive will depend on your skill level, training and the age and needs of the child. Please click for Fostering Allowances Summary
Skills and Training
The best way to develop your skills and increase your allowance is through our excellent training programme, which includes the Skills to Foster course and an array of exciting development opportunities, including safeguarding children, talking sex and relationships with young people and tax and benefits workshops to name but a few. As part of your training and support, you will be invited to our regular fostering information sessions, where our experts and experienced foster carers give presentations and answer any questions that you have, but please remember that the only silly question is the one that you didn’t ask!
Round the Clock Support
When you have been approved as a foster carer, you will receive round the clock, confidential support from our fostering experts, with your own dedicated social worker and our after-hours emergency duty team only a phone call away. Your social worker will support you to care for children and young people, helping you develop your skills and guide your learning.
Respite Breaks
Fostering will possibly be one of the most rewarding things that you do, but we also appreciate that there will be challenges and demands on you and your family and sometimes you will need a few hours, days or weeks to take a break from fostering to recharge your batteries. We have short term respite foster carers on hand to care for your foster child while you enjoy a well-earned break.
Fostering Support Events
When you join Sefton Fostering, you also become part of a wider network and fostering community who provide you with a wide range of vital support. There is the Foster Carers Support Group, where our foster carers share their experiences and expertise, giving each other advice and support on a regular basis. The sons and daughters of foster carers will have to share their parents, their toys and their friends, as well as cope with difficult and challenging behaviour. In order to support them, we run regular preparation sessions to provide support and a chance to talk and ask questions. There are regular social events for foster families, these are a great fun to be part of, as foster carers, their foster children and their own sons and daughters bond with families engaged with our service.
Placement Support Workers
There are placement support workers on hand to provide a range of additional support to foster carers and children who are cared for.
Support from Specialist Services
Children’s nurses ensure your foster child’s health needs are taken care of, offering advice and signposting you to specialist health support. Sefton’s specialist education team will liaise with your foster child’s school and provide one-to-one learning where need is identified. There is also Sefton’s Virtual School who work with education settings and foster families to make sure children are getting the most from their education.
