Tom’s Story
The film follows Tom, an 11-year-old boy, before being fostered, Tom faced significant challenges. The film contrasts his need to run; whether to escape danger, navigate a chaotic home life, or rush to school for breakfast because he’s hungry, with running as a sport. Despite these obstacles, including not even having a PE kit for school, Tom discovers his talent for running.
The story reaches a powerful climax as he competes in an athletics tournament, running in a stadium with the support of his new foster family. The film highlights both his sporting talent and personal growth. It’s Tom’s chance to shine. Can he win his race—on the track and in life?
The film was developed with foster carers and individuals with care experience, providing authentic insight into the reality of fostering and the profound difference carers can make to children like Tom.
