For children and young people to recover from early traumatic experience, whether caused by maltreatment or serious neglect, they need to replay the DVD of their earlier life with a safe parenting person.

This helps them to rewire their brain for a productive and satisfying life.  So, they ideally need a safe, emotionally literate and attuned adult (or two!) to help them replay that DVD.  They need to have that relationship acknowledged as being central on their journey to recovery.

Foster carers and social workers who attend this course will learn about

  • The impact of trauma on a child’s brain development
  • The consequences of trauma for the child – and how it gets replayed in different environments
  • The foster carer’s task
  • Re-parenting on a day-to-day basis
